Opening another one...

...because I can't stop

2011 Topps Inception Football

So last week I wrote about the 2016 Blowout NFL Season PLAYER Promo.  None of my players (Steelers RB, Cowboys WR, or Vikings RB) hit any of the weekly milestones so I didn’t win any money towards more cards. But I did open the 2011 Topps Inception.

Here is the first box break from the boxes that came with the contest.  I decided to start with the 2011 Topps Inception because it was only 7 cards.  Here is the product page from Blowout Cards.

Box Configuration:  1 pack per box. 7 cards per pack.
Price: $84.95
Description:  Topps Inception Football is designed to capture the drama, excitement, and buildup surrounding the 2011 Rookie class as it spotlights all the top drafted position players recruited for the NFL Rookie Premiere Photo Shoot.

Each 7-Card Encased Pack Includes:
– 3 ROOKIE HITS! (2 Rookie Numbered On-Card Autographs or Rookie Autograph Jumbo Patch Card, 1 Numbered Rookie Jumbo Patch or Relic Card)
PLUS
– 2 Numbered Parallel Cards
– 2 Striking Veteran Base Cards

Without further ado…

While I love the design of these cards there wasn’t much chance for me to grab a Buffalo Bill since there are only three of them on the check list.  It’s also a little weird that there were two Christian Ponder cards in the same box/pack.  It was pretty fun opening these great looking cards and while I’m not a Vikings fan or a Christian Ponder fan the “Silver Signings” card is sweet and will probably be going into my personal collection.  As always if you are interesting in trading for any of these cards let me know.  I’ll get to the other two boxes shortly.  I just can’t resist opening one more pack.

2016 Blowout NFL Season PLAYER Promo

So I was perusing the internet one day and came across this promotion by Blowout Cards.  It’s kind of like fantasy football with awards for your players doing well.  I’ve bought boxes from Blowout Cards in the past and thought I take a chance at one of these contests.  It was pretty expensive but I’m hoping it will totally be worth it.  It’s a pretty interesting contest.  You pay for a spot, either $199.95 for one player or $549.95 for three players.  Each player comes with a random box of cards.  And if that player (or his backup) hits certain levels of performance you get gift cards to Blowout Cards.  For example the person that owns the running back with the most yards at the end of the season gets a $1000 to spend at Blowout Cards.  There are both weekly and yearly awards.  All of the details are right here.

I dropped the $550 on three players and it turned out pretty well.  Here is the breakdown of the players I will be following closely this season.

Players
Dez Bryant
Le’Veon Bell
Adrian Peterson

So Bryant was a better choice before Romo got hurt but still a pretty decent WR to have.  And even missing three games Bell could lead the league in rushing.  And Adrian Peterson is always a threat to be the best back in football.   Run Adrian Run!

The three boxes I received as part of this promotion are below.  Not one bad box in the bunch.  They are expensive boxes.  The Blowout Cards price is listed.  So I only have to win a couple of prizes to break even.  Here’s hoping for some good luck this season.  It would also be okay if none of these players did anything and the Bills won the Super Bowl!  Let’s Go Buffalo!

Random Boxes
2008 Upper Deck SPx ($94.95)
2011 Panini Contenders ($129.95)
2011 Inception ($84.95)

Total $309.85
Difference $240.10

I’ll break these boxes over the course of the next week.  Stay tuned and see what cards I pull.  Until then go open one more pack.  I know that’s what I will doing.

The Loot Locker – August Edition

Here we go again….The August Loot Locker came in the mail on Friday and I busted it open to find the following.  I haven’t had a big hit in a while so I was hoping for something nice.  Check out what I pulled.

Grand Slam Collectibles – Murfreesboro, TN

And as my travel season begins, this becomes the 3rd brick and mortar card shop I’ve actually visited since starting to write about them.  This one in Murfreesboro, TN was open for just one week when I walked through the door.  It was well laid out but Nathan, the owner, was still building his inventory.  He had a great set up of glass displays with a large football section.   Good for me!  Nothing Jim Kelly, bad for me.

After I searched through card boxes labeled $2 and the one labeled $1.50 and the one labeled $1, I found a few Bills cards to add to my personal collection.  I then chatted with the owner, Nathan.  We talked about why he opened the place and what he hoped to do.  He told me he was selling a lot on Ebay but also had really good foot traffic during the first week.  He told me he thought the walk-ins would continue since there isn’t many places in middle Tennessee.  His main business is buying and selling single cards.  We chatted about the trading card industry and a little bit of football for almost 30 minutes before I paid $17 for some Bills cards.  He’s what I picked up.

As I said in my last post I couldn’t wait to rip open the Silver packs that I got with my Classics 2-team case break from Dave and Adams Card World.  After sorting through all of the Cowboys and 49ers I slowly opened the 4 silver packs.  3 skinny ones and a thick one.  Without further delay…

2016 Panini Classics Case Break

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now.  I’ve tried other breaks and didn’t really think it was worth the value but when I saw this one and had to take a chance.  Also I like giving Dave and Adam’s Card World my business for a couple of reasons, first they have great customer service and second, they are a Buffalo company.  It was just under 30 dollars for one team for an entire case break.   The break was happening live from the National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City.  Each spot also came with 2 Panini NSCC Silver Packs.  I bought two spots.

As they randomly selected the teams, I hoped for Buffalo as one my teams but it wasn’t meant to be.  And with my luck, I got the two teams I’m not a fan of.  But they both had some value.  The Cowboys (with super rookie Ezekiel Elliott) and the 49er with the possibility of pulling a Jerry Rice or Joe Montana autograph.  I tried to Trade the 49ers for the Bills or Panthers but there were no takers.  The live break started at Noon and took about 2 hours to complete the entire case.  They only send out the hits, inserts, and short prints, which include red backed, glossy and bronze.

Let’s start with the base legends, the number in parenthesis are the number of cards I received.

The Loot Locker – July Edition (Again)

So I guess I’ve been calling these by the wrong month.  It appears that the July Loot Locker actually comes the first few days of August.  I’ve been calling them by the month they come in, but I digress. Yesterday the “July” Loot Locker came in the mail.  I broke it open and found the following packs.

As I’ve mentioned before I really like the Elite cards.  They are a little expensive to chase the sets so I’m I’ll probably be chasing those Buffalo Bills.

I was a little disappointed that it was only three packs of cards, but having the Elite and Certified in there kind of made up for it.  Then opening the packs led to some nice hits, although nothing big for the personal collection. It seems Loot Locker has done it again.  Love this service.  Already waiting on the one for next month, I might have to up it to 2 loot lockers!  Now I’ve got to go open one more pack!

Repack – Another Try

So I stopped by the local Target and picked up some cards yesterday.  I saw this $12 repack and thought I’d take another shot and see what I’d pull.  It says 10 packs.  They are all retail packs, but here is the rundown.

Two 2013 Prizm
Two 2014 Score
Two 2016 Leaf
One 2014 Prestige
One 2014 Hit
One 2015 Topps
One 2015 Rookies & Stars

Let’s start with the 2013 Prizm.  I’ve been collecting this set for a while now.  And just completed the base veteran and rookies.  So why am I showing a couple of random cards, because both of these are base cards I need to help with the second set.  Also pulled one insert.  A Decade of Dominance Troy Aikman.

Here are the rest of the notable cards.  The Topps Christine Michael is another card from a set that I collected but adds to the second set.  The Topps Warren Moon was the only insert in the pack.  I included the Prestige insert of Johnny Football and a pretty cool insert from Rookies and Stars, plus a couple of Buffalo Bills.

Thanks for taking a look at another break.  Let me know if you are interested in any of the cards.  As always I can help complete sets from 1984 through present.  I’d love to hear from you.

2016 Donruss Elite – Buffalo Bills

As I’ve posted on here before I’m a big fan of the guys at TradeCardsNowBoards.com.   While the contests and the trading is what keeps me coming back occasionally I purchase a few cards from some of the guys on the site.  I picked up some Buffalo Bills from the 2016 Donruss Elite football set from Rich who runs All Star Sports Cards

The 2016 Donruss Elite set is 200 cards, 100 veteran/retired, 100 rookies with 9 parallels (Retail Green, Black #/199, Green #/99, Teal #/75, Red #/49, Purple #/25, Orange #/10, Gold #/1).  The set also include a whole bunch of insert sets.  I like the card design and while I hate that there are 9 different parallels this set is a perfect vehicle for the different colors.  The scans don’t really do these cards justice.  They are a good looking card on a pretty thick card stock.
